Have a question about ethics, please help!?

My ex-girlfriend’s dad passed away a year ago next month. We’ve been broken up for a few months now and I want to do something nice to let her family know I’m thinking about them during this hard time. What I want to do is get them a nice floral arrangement delivered and get them a small gift as well. I saw some wall art with the saying “It’s not the years in the life, but the life in the years”, a quote by Abraham Lincoln. Her dad was 55 and killed in a motorcycle accident. My question is, would this be appropriate? I was very close with the family and just wanted to let them know I’m thinking about them during a hard time. Any help is greatly appreciated!
