plants and flowers information
What PH is required to grow the plant Ixora and, what soil type how big will it get and how long will it take?

The Ixora is a flowering perennial and I am looking for all information about planting tips for optum growth, i.e., when to fertilize, what to use and how often to use it? Also, how large will the plant get and how long will it take to reach maxium growth?I am in zone 8-9 Houston, Tx area and would like to find free information on growing a varity of plants, specially perennials. Additionally, what are the best perennials for my zone, i.e., longest fllowering periods, large flowering coverage and easy to grow. My sincere thanks, Tricky Ricky.

Ixora is a plant that requires a great deal of iron (likes acid soil). Applying supplemental iron to the plant when fertilizing will help it stay green. You’ll need to apply this in a liquid form so the plant has a better chance of taking it up. If it is applied to the soil, the iron may get caught up with other elements leaving it unavailable to the plant.

Now that I have at least answered your question… you should know that Ixora grows best in Zones 10 and 11. The ‘cold’ of zone 9 may mean that it looks bad and doesn’t grow very well, but if you do decide to give it a try, you must supply it with that extra iron! I will say this… Ixora is is a common landscape plant in Gainesville, FL, which is a zone 8B. You’re in 9A so you should be ok growing Ixora! I saw it growing all over Gainesville, some of the plants looked great, some looked a little yellowed, but I never saw any that died. Give it a try!

Check out this publication. It is for south Florida, but the information is applicable to you in TX. It is a guide for growing Ixora.
